We aim to improve the speed, specificity, and accuracy of biological measurements. To achieve this, our lab builds custom microscopes capable of capturing fast biological dynamics such as action potentials and voltage dynamics in the brain. We have developed optical techniques that allow images to be controlled and manipulated on the nanosecond timescale, providing access to time-domain information from fluorescent probes that would otherwise be invisible using conventional cameras. We apply these techniques to address fundamental questions in neuroscience and cellular signaling.
